Fund Your Way to the 2020 NCTE Virtual Annual Convention!

Have you dreamed of attending the NCTE Virtual Annual Convention, but struggled with finding the funding and support to attend? In an era of ever-tightening budgets and staffing cuts, it is increasingly important to make a solid case for continuing education and professional learning. Here are a few suggestions to help lower costs and help you to raise money for your 2020 experience!

Plan Your Budget

Make sure you are already a member of NCTE! Members receive exclusive discounts on Conventions, meetings, and professional learning materials. Non-members save $50 when they add membership and register at the member rate.

Share Your Story!

Tell your community your professional development goals and how experiences like the NCTE Annual Convention can positively impact your teaching. Here is a template that can be used as a guide to request support from your administrator, families at your school, local businesses in your community, friends and family. Customize this request with your specific details to make your story more personal.

You may find this website useful to share with administrators who want to get a sense of what the Annual Convention is all about.

Check with your principal or department chair to see if there is any professional development money available. Attending a national conference with all of its sessions, workshops, and many other opportunities for education often qualifies as professional development training.

NCTE provides a certificate of participation and has partnered with the University of San Diego to offer continuing education credits. Note that each state has different rules for recertification processes, so be sure to check documentation requirements prior to the Convention.

Apply for Grants, Scholarships, and Awards

Investigate local, district, or state grants and scholarships or grants.

Each year NCTE celebrates more than 90 different awards across our various constituencies. These awards shine a light on the exceptional work of our educators and students and offer myriad opportunities to recognize and elevate what makes the teaching and learning of English language arts so powerful.
