2024 NCTE Annual Convention

Call for a Caring Community

Call for a Caring Community

Dear 2024 NCTE Annual Convention attendees,

Welcome to Boston for the 114th NCTE Annual Convention. We come together as a caring community, and we ask that you plan to spend your time onsite with a spirit of generosity toward people, ideas, and experiences. We come together to learn and grow our expertise in literacy education.

As we seek clarity and community, we recognize that the world requires us to relate to each other across differences. That’s only possible when we recognize the humanity within all of us. We are all people who possess histories, wounds, hopes, and dreams. We strive to be resilient in our care for students and each other.

The goal for our Convention is for it to be one of inspiration, new ideas, and opportunities to extend hope to each other and our students. This includes engaging with mutual respect on issues where individuals may disagree. We encourage curiosity and inquiry. The opportunity to be together as a community of literacy educators offers the time to commit ourselves to personal growth, student success, and well-being, while creating a better future.

NCTE offers an expansive space to discuss professional practices. Within that expansive space, there are differences of belief and practice. In the spirit of bridging differences and recognizing the humanity in each individual across our collective, we share NCTE’s Mutual Respect and Anti-Harassment Policy. Thank you in advance for ensuring this Convention is a place where everyone may learn, network, and socialize in an environment of mutual respect. Should you have any questions, please email eventcommunications@ncte.org.

Cordially,
